FOCUS: Stars
WOD: a comprehensive list of vocabulary words that will be used, studied, and quizzed the entire year. WOD will be listed in BOLD. Write the date, word, and definition in your planner each day.
Monday: (CHROMO-) NO SCHOOL - INSTITUTE DAY
HW: Think about how much you miss school and your teachers.
Tuesday: (PHOTO-)
What stars are made of, HR diagram (life cycle), and locating.
HW: Fill out a PPP slide sheet with images, information, and graphs that you might want to enter tomorrow.
Wednesday: (CONVECTION) Report directly to the media center. Enter information on the history of constellations (web), the importance of constellations, constellation names/shapes/zodiacs, and how to locate stars.
HW: No homework.
Thursday: (APPARENT MAGNITUDE) Report directly to the media center. Enter in information on what stars are made of, HR diagram (life cycle), and locating.
HW: Please bring a THICK piece of paper with the name of one constellation on the top and dots representing the stars. Hole punch or pop out the dots to see through it.
Friday: (ACTUAL MAGNITUDE) Use the hole punched constellations to cast the light on the wall and identify its name and location in the room.
HW: No homework.

Universe movie Part I. As you watch the video fill in any details in the categories 1) Celestial (Natural) Bodies 2) Artificial Bodies 3) Theories and Concepts HW: No homework. Finish Monday's homework or look ahead.
Wednesday: (HORIZON)
Continue Universe movie Part II. Continue filling in any additional information.

Thursday: (RIGHT ASCENSION)
What are constellations? What are zodiacs?
HW: Mapping the stars (Constellation) wks.
Friday: (DECLINATION)
Why should we map the stars? How do you map the stars? Locate objects in class using right ascension, declination.

FOCUS:Introduction to Astronomy & History of astronomy.
WOD: a comprehensive list of vocabulary words that will be used, studied, and quizzed the entire year. WOD will be listed in BOLD. Write the date, word, and definition in your planner each day.
Monday: (ASTRONOMY) Read Chapter One.
HW: Write five reasons or examples of how HOW use calendars or time today. Due Wednesday.
Tuesday: (ASTROLOGY) In groups of two complete the Chapter Review at the end of the chapter.
HW: No homework. Finish Monday's homework or look ahead.
Wednesday: (YEAR) What civilizations, cultures, or countries look to the sky? What did they look into sky for? What were the benefits? What types of calendars are there? How does past relate to our use of the calendar and time? Fill in a Venn Diagram of the organization of time then and now.
HW: Find one major event by at least day, month and year. On the front of the index card indicate the major person (use birthday), event, or idea/concept in BOLD. On the back explain in detail the importance or examples of how we use it today. PERIOD 3: January, February, & March. PERIOD 4: April, May, June PERIOD 7: July, August, September PERIOD 8: October, November, December. Due Friday, January 16, 2009.
Thursday: (MONTH) Create a graphic organizer for all of common name of celestial objects and the God or Goddess name that it is associated. Include the civilization if you have the information.
HW: Rewrite (or type) your table. Top 10 will be posted on the bulletin board and receive an amazing reward of a handshake.
Friday: (DAY) Choose the top three graphic organizers of celestial objects and their pseudonyms. Put together our team calendar of astronomy.
HW: No homework.
Reminders:
* GREEN IDEA (from students): Shovel the snow and reduce gasoline usage while getting a good workout (maybe some money as well:-)
* PARENT/GUARDIAN(S): IMPORTANT - Progress reports coming home with conference sheet attached.
* MR. APOSTOL’S ADV.: Monday student survey & Thursday Gym time
* DONATION:

Monday: () Welcome back!!! Review your Comprehensive Ecology Test. They will be returned tomorrow with the vocabulary test.

HW: Identify ten astronomy objects and define, explain its significance, or give and example. Place them in a table. Choose objects or ideas that you like or find interesting.
