Syllabus 1/12/09

Syllabus for the week of January 12, 2008

FOCUS:Introduction to Astronomy & History of astronomy.

WOD: a comprehensive list of vocabulary words that will be used, studied, and quizzed the entire year. WOD will be listed in BOLD. Write the date, word, and definition in your planner each day.

Monday: (ASTRONOMY) Read Chapter One.
HW: Write five reasons or examples of how HOW use calendars or time today. Due Wednesday.

Tuesday: (ASTROLOGY) In groups of two complete the Chapter Review at the end of the chapter.
HW: No homework. Finish Monday's homework or look ahead.

Wednesday: (YEAR) What civilizations, cultures, or countries look to the sky? What did they look into sky for? What were the benefits? What types of calendars are there? How does past relate to our use of the calendar and time? Fill in a Venn Diagram of the organization of time then and now.
HW: Find one major event by at least day, month and year. On the front of the index card indicate the major person (use birthday), event, or idea/concept in BOLD. On the back explain in detail the importance or examples of how we use it today. PERIOD 3: January, February, & March. PERIOD 4: April, May, June PERIOD 7: July, August, September PERIOD 8: October, November, December. Due Friday, January 16, 2009.

Thursday: (MONTH) Create a graphic organizer for all of common name of celestial objects and the God or Goddess name that it is associated. Include the civilization if you have the information.
HW: Rewrite (or type) your table. Top 10 will be posted on the bulletin board and receive an amazing reward of a handshake.

Friday: (DAY) Choose the top three graphic organizers of celestial objects and their pseudonyms. Put together our team calendar of astronomy.
HW: No homework.

Reminders:
* GREEN IDEA (from students): Shovel the snow and reduce gasoline usage while getting a good workout (maybe some money as well:-)
* PARENT/GUARDIAN(S): IMPORTANT - Progress reports coming home with conference sheet attached.
