FOCUS: Science Project
WOD: a comprehensive list of vocabulary words that will be used, studied, and quizzed the entire year. WOD will be listed in BOLD. Write the date, word, and definition in your planner each day.
Monday: () Create a hypothesis based on you two variables. Create a draft test, lab, or experiment to test your hypothesis. Is your experiment measurable?
HW: Write up your proposal and hypothesis. Parents please read through and sign the proposal.
Tuesday: () Discuss class hypotheses and begin creating a procedure for your experimet. Identify the purpose, material and skills, and procedures for your experiment.
HW: Begin your paper on What Has Scienc Done For Me? Remember to identify 3-5 concepts that have a dual meaning 1) Your Topic context 2) Science context.
Wednesday: () Continue working on procedures. Limit number of words and steps. Be concise.
HW: Continue working on your paper. Remember to include interest statistics or facts.
Thursday: () Create a data table for your results.
HW: Continue working on your paper. Incorporate personal stories to attact the audience.
Friday: () Discuss students' experiments. What are the pros and cons to the tentative experiment. Make final changes to your experiment and prepare for experimenting over the weekend.
HW: Continue working on your paper. Get the thesaurus out and get creative with your examples. Begin experimenting and gathering data.

* GREEN & HEALTHY IDEA (from students): Finally do some spring cleaning or outdoor work if you can.

Syllabus for the week of April 20, 2009

FOCUS: Physical & Chemical Properties and States of Matter
WOD: a comprehensive list of vocabulary words that will be used, studied, and quizzed the entire year. WOD will be listed in BOLD. Write the date, word, and definition in your planner each day.
Monday: (MALLEABILITY) Create a table and label the physical and chemical properties that you will experiment tomorrow. Include a scale of the materials effectiveness.
HW: No homework.
Tuesday: (SOLUBILITY) Test material's physical and chemical properties.
HW: 1) Find a topic or interest to you, 2) List as many sciences that relate to this topic, and 3) list as many terms, ideas, or people that are related to this topic.
Wednesday: EARTH DAY!!! (STATE) States of Matter. What is exo/endothermic? Read through tentative topics for final project.
HW: Read through final project, bring in material, and research material on the science topic.
Thursday: (REACTIVITY) Creating a Hypothesis on Density. What are the variables of the experiment? Complete density lab.
HW: Create a hypothesis based on you two variables. Create a draft test, lab, or experiment to test your hypothesis.
Friday: NO SCHOOL - INSTITUTE DAY (FLAMMABILITY)
HW: Work on your project and bring in all material to work with to class. Keep your material in a labeled bad.
Reminders:
* GREEN & HEALTHY IDEA (from students): Do something this "green" for Earth Day
* PARENT/GUARDIAN(S): Field Trip Form and Money & check progress reports on Tuesday online.
* MR. APOSTOL’S ADV.: Wear gym shoes on Monday for badminton
* DONATION: Used tennis balls
* NEXT WEEK: Work on your end of the year project. Due May 15th. Presenations to follow.
